![]() Yeah! Stinkin' GM! It's just like them to make the product as cheap as possible to save a hundredth of a penny! They've got an office full of accountants and statisticians who examine every blueprint and process, then cut 4% out of it. In my opinion, all GM, cared about with their cars is they lasted through the warranty period, I would say the early 90's were worse except for 1999 Suburbans. Their marriage with Toyota (NUMMI) has taught them a lot. Happily, Chevy isn't making shite like that anymore. Our past 4 cars have been Volvo’s and we have been very happy with them. Morale of the story, we will never buy another GM product again. All went over 100,000 miles with no major problems except body rust. Some of the best cars we have had in the past, a Ford F-150 pickup, Plymouth Duster and a VW Rabbit diesel. There isn’t enough room on this thread to list all the problems we have had with the GM cars we have had. The Roadmaster was so bad that Buick exchanged it for another after we had it for only 6 months because of all the problems we had, and we didn’t even have to file a claim under Connecticut’s Lemon Law because Buick knew they would lose this case, the replacement also had many problems and we got rid of this POS with 55,000 miles on it. The Park Avenue’s transmission failed at 35,000 miles, but 3 months past the warranty date and the rest of the car just about fell apart on us, we got rid of this POS at less the 60,000 miles, we traded it in on the Roadmaster The Chevy Malibu just about rusted out from under us. Only one Regal made it to 100,000 miles, the worst were the Park Avenue and the Roadmaster. My wife and I have had 6 GM cars in the past, 3 Buick Regal’s, a Buick Park Avenue and a Buick Roadmaster, and a Chevy Malibu wagon. In my opinion, all GM, cared about with their cars is they lasted through the warranty period, after the warranty expired, they didn’t care. I suppose that eventually something will go wrong that will just be uneconomical to fix and we'll have to get rid of it, but I hope that day doesn't come soon. ![]() ![]() The repairs which we have had to make have been pretty cheap and the car is so simple that it is easy for me to do basic repairs. It has never left us on the road, never broken down and never overheated. Specially when you consider the fact that the car was a piece of shit to begin with, I have to commend it with giving us very good service. Other than that, nothing that I can think of. Replaced the head gasket (just got it back yesterday) Plastic cladding on the door has come loose a couple of timesĤ. ![]() Replacing the transmission about 10,000 miles ago (major expense)ģ. I'm not going to lie.things have gone wrong, including:ġ. We bought it new back in October 1995 and it now has 150,000 miles on it. We have a 1995 Chevrolet Lumina, but its the minivan, not the sedan. Has anyone else had one of these Chevy Luminas? Even with the head aches, I'll still miss it when it is gone, we did have a lot of good memories attached to that lovley piece of junk. This car will be gone soon, one way or another, but for now I'll be driving it while my girlfriend gets to use my trouble free and aging flagship (Grand Marquis with 118,000 miles and never a problem). The raido just stops working, the driver's side window stops functioning, the power locks fail, most pieces of the interio plastic have fallen off at least once, and the fuel gage will swing a quarter of a tank in either direction at any given monent, oh yeah and the rear view mirror fell off while I was dirving in downtown Austin one day.ġ06,000 miles, the engine leaks oil, about one quarter of the intieror is now in the trunk, the mirror has fallen off for the third time and now resides under the seat and yesterday the alternator went out. The car is "okay" for a little while but then little things start going wrong. The motor has completly siezed up and the car has to sit for three months (over Christmas) while she saves up for a new engine. She paid $4000 for it with 68,000 miles on it and no working AC. She had been using my car (1999 Mercury Garand Marquis) while I was at a conference and wanted to surprise me with a car of her own. She had been looking for a car for a while and was on a very fixed income at the time. She bout the car used from a reputable Chevrolet dealer in Austin. My girlfriend has a 1996 Chevrolet Lumina LS with 106,000 miles on it and this car has been nothing but trouble since she got it. In the spirit of the "Does anyone have" posts, here's mine.
